Violet B. (Sferra) DeJovin
AUSTINTOWN ÙX There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 12:30 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for Violet B. (Sferra) DeJovin, 88, who passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 with her family by her side in Henderson Nevada where she lived with her daughter Nancy. She will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.
Violet was born April 7, 1922 on Prospect St. in Youngstown, the daughter of Stefano and Filomena (DiStefano) Sferra. She was raised on the south side of Youngstown where she attended Woodrow Wilson High School, was a violinist, a member of the Aviation Club and the Girls Reserve, and graduated in 1940.
In addition to an early secretarial career at the Youngstown Railway Co. and Civil Service at the Ravenna Arsenal, Violet was an accomplished artist and photographer for commercial studios in the Youngstown area.
Violet was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society and the Senior Citizens Club at the Church. She was also a member of the St. Elizabeth Auxiliary where she volunteered in the gift shop.
Married at St DominicÙus church in 1951 to Jack C DeJovin, Violet moved to Austintown where she raised her family with a joy for cooking, baking and gardening and was well known for ability as a seamstress.
She leaves behind to hold in their memories her three children Jack A. (Jean) DeJovin of New Jersey, Elaine (Garry Gordon) DeJovin of Missouri, and Nancy DeJovin of Nevada, a former son-in-law, Mehdi Faraji, two grandsons Michael (Susan) Edwards and Brian (Stacey) Edwards both of New York, six great grandchildren Sean, Ryan, Colin, Laurie, Sarina and Jake and an extended family of many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jack, a sister Mary Sferra and two brothers Joseph and Anthony Sferra.
Friends may call on Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 12:00 Noon until 12:30 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
