email from great grandson, Tim Simmons, Oct 2008: "Hi Mark, I've been using your site a lot recently to research my family. With the help of some second & 3rd cousins, aunts, uncles etc, we've pieced together a good part of our family tree. Your "Graphical Family Tree (Part 2) Other DiVecchia branches..." links to our family. I can fill in some blanks on that page if you are interested in the information.

We are descended from the Marco DiVecchia & Maria Felice Palmieri marriage. They had two children Anna Gioconda DiVecchia and Carmine Divecchia (born 1886). Carmine and his wife Anna Maria DiPietroantionio, are my Great Grandfather and Great grandmother. Anna Marie's family is well documented back through the Pantalone family to the 1600's. I can trace Carmine back to Giacomo DiVecchia b 1735.

Carmine and Anna Maria had 6 children: Paolina, Jerry, Angelo (born 1919), Guido, Alba and Antionette. The latter 3 are still living and provided some of this information. Angelo was my grandfather, (died in 2001), he had 5 children my mother Shirley is one of them. I can provide all of the descendents of the 6 people above. But that's a lot of people. Angelo's descendents are all in northern California. All the rest are in the Boston area.

Thanks for making the information available!!"

email from great grandson, Tim Simmons, Oct 2008: "Paolina moved back to Italy. Jerry, Guido, Alba and Antionetta settled in the Boston area along with Carmine and his wife. Guiido, Alba and Antonetta are still living. They all have kids and grandkids. One family came out to visit maybe 8 years ago. I haven't had much contact with them, I met Alba when I was in high school, I'm 44 now."

"I just found out about this group, thought I would share a little bit about our family.

I'm the grandson of Angelo DiVecchia (1919-2000). His parents were Carmine (1886-1975) and Anna Maria diPietrantonio (1896-1974). They had 6 children: Paolina, Jerry, Angelo, Guido, Alba and Antionetta. Paolina did not emigrate to the USA. The others, except Angelo, settled in the Boston area. I keep in touch via Facebook with Guido's daughter Ann Marie, but sadly don't know anyone else from the Boston side of the family.

Angelo moved to the Monterey CA area. He met my Grandmother Idris (Sue) Dominic (still living). They had 5 children, John, Shirley, Linda (Carol), Sally, Jerry. John lives near my grandmother in Berry Creek CA, the others live in the Sacramento area. My mom, Shirley, passed away in 2010 at the age of 64.

John has 3 kids, Shirley 3, Linda 2, Sally 3, Jerry 3. Almost all of us have kids of our own, I have 2 daughters, 20 & 22 yrs old. I can't even keep track anymore how many Great grand kids Angelo and Sue have now, it must be close to 40.

Some of us grandkids live in the San francisco bay area, others are in the Sacramento area.

I also saw an area called Fonte Romana, a wooded area in the mountains where people picnic. When I got home from my trip, my father told me that this was the area that the Nazi's took him at age 13. He had to work for the soldiers melting snow so that they could cook. He had to stay there for three months and when released he walked home. He told me it was about a three hour walk. Antionette DiVecchia Paoletti and I are quite close relatives. Her mothers name was Anna Maria DiPietrantonio . There were many marriages from Sant'eufemia that were between the Pantalone and the DiPietrantonios . My paternal grandparents for certain. Antionette was the youngest of her family. She herself told me that she had an older brother that lived in California. His name was Angelo , however they called him Johnny. She didn't know him well. She being the youngest stayed in Italy with her mother while her father was in America.. Eventually they came to Watertown , MA. I am uncertain as to when her siblings came to the states. I dont know her older brother, however, I do know the other siblings. Guido, lives in Waltham , MA, Alba DiVecchia Funari had lived in Needham , MA she recently moved to NH. Her brother Juerino ( jerry ) is deceased, he lived in Watertown . His age would be close to 90. He and my father were great friends. Antionette sister Paolina ( sp ) lived in Boston. Although I think she may have also lived a good part of her life in Sante'eufemia . She was much older than I, so I didn't really know her. Her son Nick and his wife Lena ( Alberico ) have a restaurant in the North End of Boston. I am just coming to realize that Paolina must have also married a DiPietrantonio ."

Francesco Frazzini (I6596) [Male] b. ABT 1887 San Pietro Avellana, Campobasso, Italy - d. 4 Apr 1915 Denver, Denver, CO
Immigration: : 11 May 1898
The divorce record of Felicito and Dorinda in 1899 lists a 10 year old son, Francesco.
From Rita Timm at http://coloradoclues.com: "Felicito, from Dorinda, marr. Naples, Ital, 9/10/1887, divorce Denver, ch. Francisco, age 10, 4/20/1899. Docket # 029098. Date: 04/20/1899"
Felicito and Dorinda were married in 1886 per the SPA marriage records. Their son was probably born in 1887 but the records are missing for that year. I checked 1888 and 1889 but he does not appear in those years.
1898 11 May - Ellis Island, 10y, Francesco Frazzini di Felicito (son of Felicito), coming to the US traveling with Antonio Frazzini, the brother of Felicito. Going to Denver, CO. Not able to read/write. General Health - good, never before in the US.
1910 articles about the murder of his mother mentions that he is 22y and is deaf-mute.
1915 5 Apr funeral notice in The Denver Post. address: 2649 West 26th Ave. I could not find an obituary.
1915 Tombstone in Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, CO. 28y.

Giuseppa DORINDA Labate (I6597) [Female] b. 19 Mar 1864 San Pietro Avellana, Campobasso, Italy - d. ABT 27 Nov 1910 Denver, Denver, CO
Immigration: : 6 Dec 1898
1864 SPA transcribed birth record #14.
1869 SPA Status Animarum, Rif 261, Via San Rocco.
1886 SPA transcribed marriage record.
1886 should be a manifest for his arrival from SPA after marrying Felicito Frazzini. He should be with her.

1898 6 Dec arrival of a Dornia Labate (F) on the Hesperia, never before in the US, according to Castle Garden. 33y (born 1865). Found on EI, travelled with Giuseppa Cioffi, Angela Labate, and Domenico Buzzelli. Going to brother, Casimirro. Originally read - going to husband Felice Frazzini - but that was crossed out.

1899 19 Mar - Article in the Denver Evening Post about Felicito Frazzini's divorce from Dorinda.
1899 Colorado divorces: Felicito, from Dorinda, marr. Naples, Italy, 9/10/1887, divorce Denver, child Francesco, age 10, 4/20/1899. Docket # 029098. Date: 04/20/1899
1900 census, Wells, Elko, NV, 35y, Feb 1865, with husband Domenico Labate and son William. 1 child - 1 living. Listed as Dora.
1900 Census Arapahoe County shows Felicito as divorced (maried for 12 years). 35y

1910 census, not found as Dora Cellanto.

1910 28 Nov article in the Denver Post, "Mysterious Foe Blindfolds, Gags and Kills Mrs. Cellanto". 40y, Listed as "Dorinto Frazzini Labata Cellanto". Recounts her marriages to Felice Frazzini (in Rome -"He brought her to this country and here secured a divorce."), D. Labata (who divorced her) and Cellanto. Three children, one, Frank Frazzini 22y, a deaf mute, by the first marrage, and two by the second marriage. Lived at 1402 E 38th Ave.

1910 6 Dec article in the Denver Post: "The victim of the cutthroats figured in a divorce suit in June, 1905, her name then having been Mrs. Dorinto Labata, the wife of Dominico Labate...The jury found in behalf of the wife and she received the decree, also the custody of their children, named in the papers as Billy, 5 years of age, and Joe, 4 years... Later, Labata showed up in court and secured the custody of the two children, alleging that the mother was not a proper person to take charge of them. He took them to Canada. The divorce was granted Jun 20, 1905 and the woman married Cellanto Nov 27, the same year."

1910 9 Dec article in The Denver Post: "No arrangements have been made for the burial of Mrs. Cellanti."

1940 census, Ely, White Pine, NV, 53y, with husband, Domenico.

Find A Grave memorial but I've not found where she is buried.

Vincenzo "James" Francisco (I6598) [Male] b. 1865 Italy - d. ABT 1901
Immigration: : 1880
Occupation: : 1900
1900 Census, Salida, Chaffee, CO, first name James, 35y, born 1865 in Italy, immigrated 1880. Wife Gertie. Sons - Louie and Fred.
James is a often seen translation from the Italian name of Vincenzo.

I'm assuming that James died about 1901 because by 1902, his wife Carolina had remarried to Felicito Frazzini.

Original name in Italy might be 'di Gianfrancesco' or 'diFrancesco'.
.
From the book, Colorado and The Italians in Colorado by Giovanni Perilli - "FIRST ITALIANS TO SETTLE IN DENVER -- 1872 : John di Gian Francesco with a few companions came in the Fall of the same year (1872), they being the third group of real Italian settlers in this city."
